The EDD works to advance Bermuda’s economic growth by supporting future-focused policies, programmes and partnerships. The Department works to strengthen Bermuda’s business environment and help position the Island for long-term competitiveness. It also helps coordinate Government action, policy development and stakeholder engagement to support investment, innovation and economic activity.

The Economic Development Department supports the sustainable growth, development and diversification of Bermuda’s economy.
Our Work
The EDD is responsible for supporting key national priorities, including the Economic Development Strategy and the Fintech Strategy.
Its work includes research, policy support, investor facilitation, grant administration, fintech development and coordination across Government.
Objectives
The EDD’s objectives are:
- Facilitate, create, and implement policies to support the Bermuda Economic Development Strategy 2023-27.
- In collaboration with industry stakeholders, position Bermuda as an ideal test market for innovative product and industry development.
- Identify the jurisdiction’s market fit, clearly communicate its message, and drive opportunities that lead to economic activity.
- Process various Land Licenses and Incentive For Job Maker applications in a timely, efficient and professional manner.
- Facilitate opportunities for technology education, mentoring and training, and support e-entrepreneurship.
- Help create a more attractive regulatory environment for business and enhanced communication between the Government of Bermuda and the private sector.
Programmes and Initiatives
The EDD administers grant programmes and supports initiatives that encourage innovation, entrepreneurship, skills development and emerging industry growth.
It is also responsible for the E-Commerce Advisory Board, known as ECAB, which advises on the development of e-commerce, digital business and related policy matters in Bermuda.
Bermuda Coders Initiative
Dedicated to nurturing local coding talent, this initiative provides accessible resources and training opportunities for individuals eager to advance their tech skills. This training comes at no cost to the learners and is available to aspiring and professional developers alike.
Fintech Training Programme
Explore the cutting-edge world of Fintech through this programme designed to empower Bermudians with foundational knowledge and skills in financial technology. Participants gain insights from industry leaders and access career-building opportunities in this thriving sector.
Tech Education Day
Tech Education Day is an engaging annual event that inspires the next generation of tech leaders in Bermuda. Designed for students, it connects youth with technology experts and showcases career possibilities in the fields of technology and innovation.
TechAwards
The Technology Innovation Awards celebrate Bermuda-based individuals and organisations excelling in technological innovation. From start-ups to established enterprises, the TechAwards recognise and amplify transformative contributions to the island’s tech ecosystem.
E-Commerce Advisory Board
The E-Commerce Advisory Board is a statutory Board (“ECAB”) created under Section 30 of the Electronic Transactions Act 1999 (“ETA”) to advise the Minister about matters relating to e-commerce in Bermuda. ECAB comes into effect upon publication in the Official Gazette each year and serves until the end of that calendar year.
The Standard for Electronic Transactions was appointed pursuant to subsections 29(3) and 29(5) of the ETA.
