Works and Engineering

The Department of Works and Engineering is an integral part of the Ministry of Public Works, providing highly visible and essential services to the Bermuda public, including:

Waste Management – collection and safe disposal of Bermuda's solid waste.
Water and Sewage – planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of government water extraction, treatment and distribution, and wastewater collection and disposal.
Road Maintenance and Repairs – development and maintenance of the public road infrastructure to ensure the safe passage of motorists and pedestrians. Telephone 295-5151 to report, or email potholes@gov.bm

Government Facilities – structural inspection, design, construction, maintenance and project/contract services for government buildings and electrical and mechanical systems.

To ensure the effective and prudent management of all operations and engineering services relating to the construction, erection, improvement, maintenance and repairs of Government Infrastructure.

Departmental Sections

The Department is made up of seven sections: Structures, Highways, Electrical, Water and Sewage, Tynes Bay, Quarry, and Solid Waste. These sections represent some of the country's backbone infrastructure and can have far-reaching impacts on society.

Legislation

The Ministry's mandate is legislated through the Public Lands Act (1984), which charges the Minister of Public Works with responsibility for the management of public lands, roads, water supply, sewage schemes, buildings and highways, and the construction, erection, improvement, maintenance and repair of the same.
