The Ministry of Youth, Social Development and Seniors is encouraging Bermuda to take practical steps toward greater inclusion during National Inclusion Week, September 14–20.
This year, the Ministry is promoting the “One Barrier, One Commitment” pledge, inviting schools, businesses, charities and public bodies to identify one barrier to inclusion and commit to one specific action to remove it. One of those actions can be a simple word, “YES”. Yes, to inclusion, yes, to accessibility.
Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, the Hon. Tinee Furbert, JP, MP, said:
“Inclusion is about removing the barriers that prevent people from participating fully in our community. We all have a role to play in creating a Bermuda where everyone can participate with dignity, respect and a sense of belonging.”
The Ministry supports inclusion through a range of services, including Ageing and Disability Services, which provides case management, accessibility consultation, information and referrals, senior abuse support, and programmes for persons with disabilities. The Ministry also provides Financial Assistance, Child and Family Services and youth services.
Members of the public can learn more about available support by visiting Ministry of Youth, Social Development and Seniors.
The Ministry encourages everyone to identify a barrier, make a commitment and take meaningful action toward building a more inclusive Bermuda.
