Ministry of Home Affairs to host CARICOM public meeting

The Ministry of Home Affairs will host a public town hall meeting on Bermuda's proposed full CARICOM membership on Tuesday, April 7, at 6:00 p.m., at St. Paul's Centennial Church Hall.

The meeting forms part of the ongoing public consultation on the Government’s Green Paper on Bermuda's Application for Full Membership in the Caribbean Community, tabled in the House of Assembly by Minister of Home Affairs the Hon. Alexa Lightbourne, JP, MP.

Consultation began earlier this year through the launch of togetherforcaricom.gov.bm and a series of stakeholder engagements.

Members of the public are encouraged to visit togetherforcaricom.gov.bm ahead of the meeting to read the Green Paper and come prepared to engage.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Minister Lightbourne said, “Bermudians deserve to be informed and to have their questions answered. This is part of a broader process of bringing the public along as we work through a decision that government is well-equipped to make. Deepening ties with CARICOM is about people, shared history and shared prosperity.”

The Ministry's public education campaign, THE STORY OF US, is currently running across multiple platforms. It brings forward Caribbean and Bermudian voices to contextualise the island's historical, cultural, and regional connections.
