Premier David Burt’s National Heroes Day Message

As we observe National Heroes Day, we pause to reflect on the individuals whose efforts helped shape Bermuda for generations to come. Their leadership, advocacy, service, and sacrifice helped build the Bermuda we know today. We honour our National Heroes: Dame Lois Browne-Evans, Dr. Edgar Fitzgerald Gordon, Dr. Pauulu R. N. O. B. Kamarakafego, Sir Henry James “Jack” Tucker, Mary Prince, Gladys Misick Morrell, Sir Edward Richards, and Sir John W. Swan. While they came from different perspectives.

Swan. While they came from different perspectives and backgrounds, they each, in their own way, played a role in shaping our island and helping to define its future.

This year's observance carries added significance as we remember Sir John Swan following his recent passing. As one of Bermuda's National Heroes, his life and service form part of the legacy we honour during this year's observance.

As we enjoy this holiday, I encourage everyone to reflect on the example set by our National Heroes and consider how each of us can contribute to Bermuda's future.

For those taking part in the holiday festivities, including Carnival celebrations, I wish you a safe and enjoyable weekend.
