Premier Extends Condolences on the Passing of Mr. Owen S. Arthur

“A leader of great distinction in the Caribbean Region and beyond,” said Premier the Hon. David Burt, JP, MP today after the sudden passing of Mr. Owen S. Arthur, former Prime Minister of Barbados. Mr. Arthur led Barbados for an unprecedented three consecutive terms from 1994 to 2008.

Premier Burt continued, “Owen Arthur was a pioneer of modern Caribbean leadership and championed the cause of Regional cooperation. He believed in the value of Caricom and its institutions and used his intellect in the service of the people of Barbados and the Region. On behalf of the Government and people of Bermuda, I send my sincere condolences to his wife and children, to the Prime Minister Mia Mottley, the people of Barbados and the Barbadian resident community of Bermuda.“
