Statement from the Commissioner of Education, 8 March 2019

The Department of Education has been made aware of a recent incident at Whitney Institute Middle School that resulted in the injury of two students.

Based on reports received from the Whitney Institute, it was determined that a student used equipment from an art class that caused injury to two other students.  

Any incident such as this is taken very seriously by Whitney Institute Middle School, the Department of Education (DOE) and the Ministry of Education.

The student who caused the injuries has been dealt with according to school and DOE protocol. Whitney Institute parents have also been notified about this incident.

Student safety is a priority and the Department of Education remains committed to working with schools to ensure safe school environments.
