Tropical Storm Philippe Downgraded to Tropical Cyclone

The Bermuda Weather Service (BWS) has downgraded Tropical Storm Philippe to a Tropical Cyclone.

Philippe is expected to pass by the Island later today, bringing with it significantly reduced winds and rains compared to earlier forecasts.

Minister Weeks expressed his gratitude and said, "I want to commend the people of Bermuda for their vigilance and preparedness in the face of this tropical cyclone.

“While the impact has been less severe than initially anticipated, it is crucial that we remain cautious and aware that hurricane season ends on 30 November."

The Bermuda Weather Service (BWS) issued its final advisory on Philippe at noon, officially ending the Tropical Storm Warning that had been in place.

Philippe's closest point of approach to Bermuda is now expected to be at 6 p.m. today, Friday, 6 October, when the system will be located within 25 nautical miles of the Island or directly over us.

Minister Weeks urges the public to exercise caution while travelling on the roads as the forecast suggests the possibility of gale-force winds later today. Additionally, rough surf and rip currents make it unsafe to enter the water.
