Parks
Overview
All bonfires in Bermuda's national parks require a Special Permit. Bonfires are treated as small events and are subject to the same oversight and conditions.
Applications can be submitted online or obtained in person from the Department of Parks office, ground floor, Global House, 43 Church Street, Hamilton. Upon approval, you will receive the full terms and conditions for proper bonfire conduct within national parks.
Who can use this service
Anyone wishing to hold a bonfire on a beach within a Bermuda national park. You must be at least 18 years of age to apply.
How to apply

Timing
Submit your application at least five working days before the date of your bonfire. This allows time for review, scheduling, and coordination to ensure the park can safely accommodate the activity.
Fees and payment

Terms and conditions
By applying for a Bonfire Permit, you agree to the following conditions. Failure to comply may result in legal action under the Bermuda National Parks Act 1986 and the Bermuda National Parks Regulations 1988.
Prohibited locations. Bonfires are not permitted at John Smith's Bay Park, Port Royal Cove, West Whale Bay Park, Jobson's Cove, or Elbow Beach.
Equipment. All bonfires must be housed in or on a metal apparatus — open fires must never be built directly on the sand. Only dry wood such as driftwood may be used. The use of fully assembled pallets as a burning platform is strictly prohibited. No glass bottles are to be burned or disposed of in the bonfire.
Supervision. Bonfires must be continuously under the care and direction of a competent adult aged 16 or older.
Location. Bonfires must be held on beaches only, within the sand of the park listed on the permit.
Extinguishing. The bonfire must be thoroughly extinguished and properly disposed of at the conclusion of the period granted by the permit.
Permit scope. The permit does not give exclusive rights to a particular spot. It expires at midnight on the approved day and must be in the possession of the permit holder at all times.
Park Rangers. Park Rangers and authorised officers may examine your site at any time during the event and will inspect it the following day to confirm the area has been left in compliance with permit conditions.
